FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is LittlePapaya.com?

A: LittlePapaya.com is a social network for expecting women and couples, parents with children and the local community that supports them.

Q: What local community are you talking about?

A: Some businesses cater directly to people with children or who are expecting children.  They could be the local consignment shop, the children’s haircut salon, or a midwife in the area.  However, the rest of the “regular” businesses and shops out there have an impact on you when you have children.  Where are the kid-friendly restaurants?  Does that local coffee shop have changing tables in the restrooms?  Where can I go to sell my old maternity clothes?

Q: What is the difference between how an individual and a business would use LittlePapaya.com?

A: A user writes in his or her journal about the pregnancy, shares pictures of the new baby, keeps track of the due date and other milestones, connects with other users in their area with similar pregnancies or same age children, and participates on discussion boards.
Businesses use LittlePapaya mainly as a digital storefront.  Here they can display contact information, what services or products they offer as well as a business blog where they can update the community on sales, promotions, new stock, etc.

Q: Why not just get a business website instead?

A: We are offering businesses their own website and blog.  This means that you have a much more dynamic site than you normally would that you can use to communicate information (such as sales, specials, new stock, etc.) in the amount of time it takes to write an email.  We are also working on having advertisements for local businesses show up on user’s sites who are in the same geographic area.

Q: I already have a fully functioning website for my business. Why should I be interested in getting another site on Little Papaya?

A: Your site on Little Papaya will create a two-way avenue of communication between you and your customers via the blog built in to the site.  Users will also be able to find you much easier than if they were to go visit a search engine (e.g., Google, Yahoo) and attempt to find a local business to fit their needs. You will be able to link to your established site from Little Papaya and you can always contact us to help you integrate your site into your Little Papaya site.

Q: But my business is already listed in a directory (Yahoo, CitySearch, South Sound Kids’, etc.).

A: Good! However, if you are on site (Yahoo) but not another (CitySearch) a potential customer may miss you.  There are plenty of directories out there, both online and in print, but there does not exist one place to look when you want to find something relating to pregnancy or kids, until LittlePapaya that is!

Q: Why the emphasis on local? On the internet it doesn’t matter who lives near me or what businesses are in my area.

A: True, however we’re connecting the online, virtual community with the real-life community you work and play in.  Because many small businesses do not have an online store where users can make purchases it comes down to finding businesses in your area that have what you need.

Q: What is this blog? Is this what LittlePapaya will look like?

A: No. www.LittlePapaya.com is under construction.  Right now we have a WordPress weblog installed so we can keep everyone up to date while we work on the finished product.
